The clutches are so strong that after the habit becomes severe it is difficult to get released from it. Statistics have shown the dire effects of cigarette smoking. The nicotine and many other carcinogenic chemicals have led people towards deadly diseases and disorders.

Even the person who does not smoke but are exposed to this deadly smoke of cigarette faces the serious implications health wise. This is called as second hand smoking or passive smoking.

Mostly these secondhand smokers are persons from the smoker’s family or friends. As most of the time they surround the smoker. And thus the kids and your loved ones at home are seriously affected.

The actual truth is that secondhand smoking isn’t quite as dangerous as actual smoking. But still you can’t disqualify the dangers involved. However, there is enough danger from this that one should sit up and take notice, especially when a smoker is around a child for some time. It’s estimated that a non-smoker who lives with a smoker inhales about 15% of their smoking; in other words, for every ten cigarettes that you smoke, the non-smoker will inhale the equivalent of one and a half cigarettes.

Secondhand smoking is especially dangerous around those whose immune systems may be compromised or somewhat weaker, and this is where the extreme danger is for children. Their hearts and lungs are still developing and therefore much more susceptible to any type of danger, especially that from passive or secondhand smoking.

Children are seriously affected with asthma attacks, lung infections, bronchitis, and virtually any other type of respiratory disease.

Secondhand smoking affects even the pets. Secondhand smoking is generally recognized as a risk factor for cancer in pets. A study conducted by the Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine and the University of Massachusetts concluded that cats living with a smoker were more likely to get feline lymphoma; the risk increased with the duration of exposure to secondhand smoke and the number of smokers in the household.

Thus people who are arguing that second hand smoking does not have serious implications mind well that dangers are definitely involved. The children and pets have very serious implications as in case of kids, their lungs are still at the developing stage. Thus, secondhand smoking is also dangerous.
