History Behind Levi Clothing

Levi’s is one of the world’s most iconic clothing brands and is synonymous with denim. The company has been making clothes for more than 170 years and offers a range of men’s clothing and accessories, including jeans, shirts, jackets and T-shirts. How It All Began

Levi Strauss was born in Bavaria and emigrated to the United States, where his brothers ran a dry goods business in New York. In 1853 he moved to San Francisco during the Gold Rush and opened his own wholesale business. In 1873, Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis, a tailor from Nevada, patented the idea of using copper rivets to strengthen the pockets of work trousers. This was the birth of the blue jean.

From Workwear to Fashion

Levi’s jeans began as tough workwear for miners, farmers and labourers, but over the 20th century they became a fashion icon, worn by film stars, musicians and young people around the world. Styles such as the 501 are still best-sellers today.

Levi’s Today

Today, Levi’s offers everything from classic jeans to modern casual wear and streetwear. Its jeans come in a wide range of fits, from slim to relaxed, and in many different washes. With its long history, Levi’s is a classic brand that seems unlikely ever to go out of style.
