How to get metal to stick together.

When metal snaps and breaks, or you want to get to bits together there are more options to fix or stick them than you’d think. In the past the only way that builders or crafters were able to get metal to adhere to each other was by welding them. Welding is the use of heated metal like  solder to add a hot metal mix between the two. Whilst it forms a strong bond it’s not a good look and there are other methods that should be considered to get a more aesthetically pleasing look.

Metal bonding adhesive is the answer for a much cleaner and smoother finish. It does require quite a strong bonding material. What makes the substance in the adhesive so sticky? The answer requires a bit of Science. The fancy name for it is cyanoacrylate and there are two types: ethyl and the methyl. The discovery of this comes from the Second World War when cyanoacrylate was going to be used as a plastic sight for guns. The chemical makeup of the plastic proved to be too sticky to use and it was discarded.

However in the 50’s it was realised that it could make a great glue. So that’s all it is, a liquid sticky plastic.
