PVC
PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, is used for window frames, pipes, cable insulation, inflatables such as paddling pools, and some clothing.
Polythene
Polythene, or polyethylene, is tough and flexible. It is used for plastic bags, cling film, bottles and many other everyday items.
Nylon
Made into fibres, nylon is strong and flexible, making it ideal for ropes, tights and tough fabrics.
Polystyrene
Expanded polystyrene is the lightweight white material often used in packaging. It is a good shock absorber and is incredibly light.
Polycarbonate
Extremely tough and clear, polycarbonate is used for car headlights, safety goggles and glazing where shatter resistance is important.
