For humans, moving house is stressful, with packing to do, paperwork to sort and local removal firms to find, like these removal companies Cheltenham. For your pets it is also a hugely stressful event. If you have a cat or a dog, here are some things that you can do to make the move easier for them.
Moving with Dogs
Dogs like routine and can be sensitive to their owners’ emotional state, so keeping the move as calm as possible is best. Even though you are packing and moving around a lot, try to stick to your dog’s routine, keeping mealtimes and walk times the same. On the day itself, it is a good idea to get someone to look after your dog, as this will give them a calmer environment and you won’t need to worry about your dog running off. Keeping things normal and routine is your aim here.
Moving with Cats
Cats are territorial creatures, and if you have a cat that goes outside, it is important to keep them indoors for at least two to three weeks after you move so they can get used to their new home. Set up a litter tray in the new house and perhaps give your cat a quiet safe room for the first few days while they settle in. It may also be a good idea to put your cat in a cattery for a few days while you move, so that they don’t get distressed or lost in the upheaval.
