For Dogs – Dogs like routine and can also be sensitive to their owners emotional state, so making sure that the move is calm is best. Even though you are packing and doing a lot of moving around try to stick to your dogs routine – meal times and walk times should stay the same. On the day itself, it is a good idea to get someone to look after your dog as this will provide them a calmer environment and you won’t need to worry about your dog running off. Trying to maintain normality and routine is your aim here.

For Cats – Cats are territorial creatures and if you have a cat that goes outside, it is important to keep them in for at least 8 weeks when you move house. Set up a litter tray in the new house and perhaps give your cat a safe room for the first night whilst they are getting used to the new house. It may be a good idea to put your cat in a cattery for a few days whilst you are moving so that they don’t get distressed or lost in the upheaval.
