What are Seder Plates used for?

The Passover is one of the most famous and widely observed Jewish festivals. It represents one of the most fundamental elements of the Jewish faith. It is about the time when the Jews were kept in bondage in Egypt. They were forced to work on the buildings of the Egyptians and other menial roles. This was a hard and unforgiving life and they wanted to escape it and return to Israel, the land of milk and honey. However, the Egyptians, led by Pharaoh refused to allow them to leave. After a series of plagues the final one visited on the Egyptians was the worst. The angel of death passed over the country and took the first born of every family, except for the Jewish families. After this Pharaoh allowed them to leave.

The Jews commemorate their deliverance with the Passover meal. The family gathers together to celebrate simply being Jewish and the ability to celebrate their religion and the fact it still survives. In some cases, Jews have also included elements of the Holocaust as further remembrance of the time when their religion was threatened.
