There is so much history here that it is easy to see why so many tales of haunted happenings can be found all over the country – here are just a few places that you might like to visit on a ghost hunt…

Bolton Abbey – The ruins of this old monastery certainly look spooky. It was destroyed during the dissolution of the monasteries by King Henry VIII. It is believed to be one of the most haunted places in Yorkshire, home to a ghost known as the Black Canon. It is said that although he died just before the dissolution, he has never been able to rest peacefully. Wearing a dark cloak and hat, many have spotted his shadowy figure wandering the ruins of the monastery, and have also heard footsteps when nobody appeared to be there…

Carbrook Hall – This was once a pub but has now closed for renovations. For hundreds of years however it was also a meeting place as well as a drinking establishment and was used by Oliver Cromwell for holding meetings during the 1640s. There have been reports of the pub’s late owner, John Blunt, who owned the pub at the time wandering around the hallways, and there have also been reports of a female ghost, who is described as an elderly woman.
